Experienced Grower/Manager

Fern Verrow has been producing certified biodynamic vegetables, fruit and flowers for the past twenty-seven years. Owned and run by Jane Scotter, we are situated on the Welsh Herefordshire borders, at the foothills of The Black Mountains. We are in a farm to table collaboration with Spring Restaurant in London owned and run by chef Skye Gyngell. Our flowers also go to Spring Restaurant, plus a few renowned florists in London also.

I am looking for an experienced organic grower with at least two years’ experience of commercial growing to work full time (Monday – Friday). I need someone to help me manage the day to day running of the land for production, someone who can help to lead a team of enthusiastic workers and volunteers to achieve the necessary tasks to produce first class vegetables successfully and efficiently. Whilst being hugely supported by me, I am looking for someone to oversee the growing and everything that involves. It is an opportunity for someone who has a good knowledge of professional organic growing, who perhaps wants to also learn more and how to run a business profitably whilst achieving very high standards.

The work will mainly involve the production of fruit, vegetables and flowers for sale; this will include the sowing of seeds, planting, weeding and cultivation right through to harvesting. We are growing on approximately ten acres.

Applicants must have a serious approach to the growing of food and be willing to work hard to achieve the very high standards that are required for our customers.

We are looking for someone who is sincerely interested in being part of a small business that is driven to produce food and flowers of the highest quality, in their taste, beauty, nutrition and integrity. Physical fitness and a practical mind is important, taking pride in one’s work essential, as is being efficient, tidy and businesslike in ones approach to work.

Comfortable, but humble accommodation can be offered also.

All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.

This is a full time salaried position.

If you are interested in applying for the position, please send a C.V and letter of introduction to Jane Scotter via email Successful applicants will be taken on anytime before March 2023.

Volunteers

We also offer voluntary placements for a minimum six-week period throughout the year.

Applicants must be over 18 years of age.

Anyone who is interested in these placements should contact us by email.
